A little bit about us
Sharon and I passed our tests in June 2017, having never ridden bikes before. So we are very new to it all! We both ride the automatic Honda NC750 DCT. Since passing we’ve joined the BikeSafe and BikerDown courses, also the SLow Riding course and been on the racing circuit at Cadwell park as well as signing up with IAM so as not to pick up bad habits and be very safe. Five weeks after passing our tests we did the Vosges mountain self-guided trip and people were a bit ‘oh is that a good idea’ but we had driven abroad a lot and went at our own pace, and then we did an off-road course and tour to wales and up to Yorkshire.
What trips have you been on?
Vosges and the Arctic Circle tour and we have booked Morocco for next year. If it’s half as good as the Arctic it will be amazing.
Why did you choose to ride with Magellan?
I found Magellan on the web and I looked at the website, testimonials and reviews proudly marked up as 97.4. The clincher was talking to David, such a gent and so helpful! Everyone has been so lovely and not pushy. David helped with the SatNav and that sort of thing, he also recommended the Helite Jackets and they have taken away so much of the worry. Magellan are a great company and very good with customers.
What worries did you have that ended up being okay?
Some of the distances we weren’t used to, so long days on the bike but no criticism as logistically that’s the only way it can be done and it’s broken down into small chunks with regular breaks. We were also worried about anchoring the bikes on the ferries, as we hadn’t done it before but the guides were there to help all the way and it was a breeze.
How did you find the hotels and the guides?
Everyone has been absolutely amazing and so helpful. Nothing is too much work. Felix is in the background with everything going on but he was just amazing, despite everything he never made any of us feel like anything was too much trouble, but also socially very clever and a great with everyone person. Hotels were good and well placed. Breakfast routines were fantastic and the food was good- sometimes really very good! Absolutely superb.
