Spain grand tour 2018- Trip report!

2018-11-05T12:57:45+00:00

Spain: Grand Tour 2018 Day2 - Santander to Llanes. We negotiated the release of all the bikes from the bilge of the ship, and waited and waited and waited for what seemed an eternity for them to open the doors.  But once they had it was a free for all and we all got out safely. Once past passport control we all met up to make sure everyone was ok, sat navs were working and we were all present and correct. Then we headed off on our adventure. Santander can sometimes be a really busy place to get out of, [...]

Romania Reconnaissance 2018 – Trip Report

2018-11-01T11:36:21+00:00

Romania Reconnaissance 2018 – Trip Report The idea of a tour to Romania, and especially the forested area known as Transylvania, rapidly developed during 2017 from a simple trip to Romania into a tour of Eastern European countries with Romania as the highlight. After all Romania is a long way east, so why not explore some of the less visited countries of Eastern Europe on the way over there and back ? After months of route planning, research, reading and talking to other bikers who had visited Romania, we set off in late July for the Eurotunnel crossing to France [...]

Greece Reconnaissance Tour 2018 – Trip Report

2018-11-05T12:33:11+00:00

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to undertake a 4-week tour of Greece to reconnoitre the tour that Magellan are offering in 2019. For those who don’t know the Magellan system, after all the route planning for a new tour is finally done, Magellan then send scout(s) to ride/drive the entire tour route, check the satnav files work, check out all of the hotels and coffee/lunch stops and to explore the places worth visiting, both en-route and on the scheduled days off the bike, to ensure the new tour is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We discovered that [...]

Mark’s Norway tour 2018

2018-10-23T09:47:30+00:00

Mr Mark Plus his Guides' Guide Joy! 16 Clients 12 Bikes August 2018 As a Tour Guide the first meeting of any group is always a bit tense, almost like your first day in a new school.  You know the feeling, will they like me? Will I like them? Are they going to be sociable?  These questions were answered in a split second when all the clients turned up in one big bunch smiling and  happy after they had met at a local restaurant quite by chance before meeting up at Harwich ferry terminal.  Woop woop its going to be [...]

Nick’s Second Italy trip report!

2018-10-16T13:59:25+00:00

Heatwave? Delays in the tunnel? Long delays in the tunnel??? Surely not, or so we thought when we met at 0700 at STOP24 however, there were already reports of queuing traffic on the motorway so we made some very quick introductions and joined the queue – QUEUE, on a motorcycle! After 2 hours of stop start (more stop than start), some pushing their bikes rather than burning out starter motors, we arrived at the kiosk to get our ticket to board only to be told of another 5 hours of delays. Meanwhile … two of our group who had joined [...]

Picos two July 2018

2018-10-23T09:30:54+00:00

Picos July 2018 Day 1 We met on a very bright and sunny Sunday lunchtime ready for our adventure to begin.  After we had all introduced ourselves we kitted up and did the “hurry up and wait routing” that I am sure every rider going through any port would understand.  It’s the necessary process of getting dressed up in all your bike gear, to remove the gloves 2 or 3 times and then fumble for passports and crossing references.  Then once through the check in it was time to que waiting to board.  It got hot!  Not only was is [...]

Ben’s Austria and Switzerland report!

2018-10-16T13:55:35+00:00

MAGELLAN AUSTRIA AND SWITZERLAND 2018 TRIP REPORT As always, meeting up with a group of ten strangers with the intention of going on an 11 day bike trip together brings with it a mixture of excitement and uncertainty. A 7am start at our usual meeting point of the Stop24 services on the M20 sees us heading for the Channel Tunnel in a whirlwind of names, faces and booking references! Once through the check-in process and safely aboard our train there’s a half hour lull as we chug under the English Channel and this gives us a chance to start getting [...]

Nick’s first Italy trip!

2018-10-16T13:56:37+00:00

June 2018 Trip report Stop 24 at an ungodly hour on a Saturday morning – most of us had stayed locally however Andy had got up and driven from Lincoln leaving at 0200 that morning – and we still had 200 odd miles to cover in France! 19 people (including me – the Magellan guide) and 16 bikes – fortunately due to the virtues of Facebook most were already acquainted and within the group as a whole there were already groups of friends who would be riding together. Quick introductions – so many faces to put to names for every [...]

Billy and Storms Croatia report!

2018-10-16T14:00:40+00:00

And so it begins, Another bunch of eager Magellanites, ready to take the plungge down to the Balkans on their well oiled machines.   With every trip there's always a mixed bag of riders and machines and this one was no different!  From tried and tested zen tourers to a 2.3ltr monster of a Triumph Rocket, all of which were lined up ready for inspection and appreciation by all 22 riders.   Everyone arrived safely at stop 24 services ready for action and more importantly, ready to have a great trip!  A great blend of new and returning riders would make this [...]

Nick’s Corsica tour report!

2018-10-16T13:57:26+00:00

I always get excited when he starts to check the tyre pressures, brake pads, tread, oil level, gives me a clean and he sticks on all those Magellan stickers – yep, we are off on one of my favourite trips and it is the start of the touring season. An early start for me as he wants to get past Lyon before the morning traffic – we are staying in Reims tonight which is where we usually stop over but, it is certainly colder this year than last year! Tucked up safely for the night in the underground car park [...]
