2018-11-05T22:29:05+00:00

Over the course of the last year the Magellan team have been exploring America doing recces for our USA tours. In the Pacific Northwest and along the Pacific Coast highway we have covered some incredible ground in the national parks. This experiential blog post will guide you through a few of those national parks, and the amazing things you can do in them, both for riders and pillions! If you fancy visiting any of these national parks, there are still spots on our 2019 USA tours... Yellowstone Yellowstone National park is the oldest National park in the world. It's filled [...]

Mark’s Trip Report: Harz Mountains, Dambusters, Colditz, Nurburgring and Vosges Mountains

2018-05-31T17:32:45+00:00

The Magellan Harz Mountains Tour of 2018 began on a damp morning at the end of April with five clients from all over the UK met at Stop24 Services outside Folkestone... We went quickly across the tunnel and onto the fast roads of France and Belgium with a marked improvement in the weather: making for happy faces at the first coffee stop! We started by visiting  the dams made famous by the RAF Dambusters who were in the area 75 years earlier during the Second World War: the Harz Mountains, the Black forest, the Vosges Mountains and all points in [...]

A big tasty motorbike tour: Top breaks for foodies.

2018-05-10T15:02:52+00:00

Let's be honest - if you go on a motorcycle tour, you don't want to spend it all in roadside cafes eating greasy beige food. You want slices of jambon in a sunny plaza washed down with ice cold white wine, straight-from-the-grill sardines at sunset by the beach  and slow-roasted, almond-stuffed lamb in an atmospheric souk. At Magellan we aren't just a 'boys club'  focused on long days and fast paces: We value the journey. This means we put a focus on taking your time if you want to, shorter riding days, free time to explore the culture of the [...]

Spain Grand Tour trip report

2017-10-19T20:03:35+00:00

Spain Grand Tour - 2017 We all met up as planned at Plymouth in some unsavoury weather. Having boarded the ferry, there was no stopping us! We were all onboard and raring to go, albeit that some were struck with the dreaded sea bug (including the guide)eek! Fortunately after getting to know each other at the bar and surviving through a turbulent night on the seas, we arrived in warm but not so sunny Santander. Santander, although a nice place i’m sure, is busy and not conducive to enjoying twisties on the bikes, so off we went in search of [...]

Italian Dolomites and Lakes trip report

2017-09-02T12:12:48+00:00

Wow – what a breath-taking trip covering six countries plus some of the most spectacular mountain passes in Austria, Switzerland and Italy. It all started at the meeting point which for a reason unbeknown to me is called STOP24, one motorway junction away from the departure junction for the tunnel. We were all mustered for 0700 and after the introductions were over, departed in an orderly fashion for the tunnel – our adventure had begun.     Lots of names to remember in our group of 20 people driving 15 bikes and once we were on the train speeding under [...]

Summer glove reccomendations

2017-06-05T09:55:16+00:00

Today's post is going to be a little shorter than usual because I just wanted to drop you guys a few lines about gloves now it's gearing up to the first trips of the year. I’m sure you all know the struggle of ridiculously sweaty hands because you decided it's not worth getting two pairs of gloves. That phase lasted about two weeks for me! I find that choosing a set of waterproof gloves for the warmer months can be a little tricky, especially if you live in the arse end of nowhere like me and have to order everything [...]

A little chat about the Swiss passes

2017-05-12T05:33:43+00:00

We have a few videos on our youtube channel (which I recommend you check out if you're thinking about a tour!) and one of my favourites is the 'Swiss passes' which shows us riding through Furka, Grimsel and Neufenen. I know I probably sound like a broken record, always saying that each place is my favourite- but it's true! I think because we carefully plan the tours so that we only ride the very best roads, with the most fantastic scenery. These passes are only open during the summer months, as during the winter they are covered with feet [...]

Just how fast is too fast?

2017-03-03T17:30:34+00:00

So, as a seasoned rider that moment of panic when you realise that you've taken a corner too fast probably doesn't happen that often, but when it does (and it will).. it scares the shit out of you, right? It certainly does for me, its that moment when you suddenly realise the corner is a little tighter than you expected, panic, grip the brakes as hard as you can and mutter profanities while trying to wrestle the bike around the bend and stay on! Well, many of our guides are IAM trainers and observers and they have some useful tips [...]
