Escorted Motorcycle Tour of Austria and Switzerland: There truly are few finer places in the world to ride your motorcycle than Austria and Switzerland, the roads, the scenery and the people all blend together to make them perfect places in which to explore and enjoy all that riding in the mountains has to offer.

On this trip you will ride across northern France visiting war memorials and having a play in the Vosges mountains before crossing into Germany and tackling the famous B500 in the Black forest. You can visit Hitler’s summer retreat and then head into Austria and the best mountain roads to be found anywhere. You’ll be surrounded by glaciers, alpine lakes and we haven’t even come to Switzerland yet!

You spend several days in Switzerland riding a selection of fine passes, all with stunning views, interspersed with stops at traditional cafes and restaurants to make sure you aren’t rushed and have time to enjoy your surroundings. A firm favourite amongst our riders, this trip isn’t to be missed.

Highlights of the tour

  • The B500 in the German Black Forest, a fast wide road across the forest ridge that constantly appears in the top 10 biking roads of the world
  • Grossglockner High alpine road and glaciers
  • The Eagle’s Nest in Berchtesgaden, Hitler’s summer alpine retreat
  • The 37 cobbled hairpins of the St Gotthard pass as well as the Furka, Neufenen and Grimsel passes in Switzerland
  • Route des Crêtes in the Vosges Mountains
  • Douaumont ossuary WW1 war memorial at Verdun

Fantastic organisation and leadership by Felix Billington. He sorted out all problems due to satnav/ intercom/breakdowns in a calm and efficient manner, making even the least experienced tourer feel comfortable and in control. I particularly appreciated the ability to set off on my own and catch up with the others later, as being on a big old Harley, my gearing wasn’t always conducive to group riding, particularly at slower speeds. I’m sure the others saw this as antisocial behaviour on my part, but it really wasn’t! The mix of male/female riders and pillions was a big plus, as it made for a very relaxed atmosphere. Some tours can be a bit ‘balls-out macho see how many miles we can do in a day’ contests of endurance, whereas Magellan got the distances between stops just right. The fact that nearly all the meals were included was a big plus, as it made budgeting a lot easier, though surprisingly some of the worst food was at the poshest hotels! (But that’s just my opinion of course! ). Overall, great roads, great weather, great company.. .. What more could you ask? Would I do it again? Tomorrow!!!

This is the first organised tour we have tried. The organisation was first class, good hotels, good food, good company, fantastic scenery and roads.

We were with a group of very friendly, likeminded motorcyclists. Everywhere we went and almost without exception, everyone was welcoming and friendly and went out of their way to be helpfull.

Our tour guide deserves a medal for his patience and fortitude, always keen to help, a wiz with the satnav and a linguist to boot. The trip was over all too soon, we’re saving for another.

The magical Alpine region of South Tyrol is a perfect marriage of romance and design. A small, hilly place about twice the size of Kent, South Tyrol is an idyllic enclave of medieval castles, steepled churches, apple orchards and vineyards.
