Hi, my name is Andy, and I’m proud to call myself a Magellan tour guide. I currently live in the Republic of Ireland, where I work as a project coordinator for the HSE. I work with staff teams to provide care and support to adults with a wide range of disabilities. If this didn’t keep me busy enough, I’m also lucky to be a father to three wonderful children, two of whom are 2-year-old twin girls. My partner also works for the health service as an ICU nurse, so when I do get to guide a Magellan tour, it’s a welcome change of pace from an otherwise busy schedule.
My love of motorcycles started at a very young age, and by the time I was 8 years old, I was riding dirt bikes. My uncles and grandfather had bikes, so it was almost inevitable that I would end up on two wheels. Anything to do with motorcycles—count me in! From short circuit racing and rally raid racing to touring and Sunday blasts around the Wicklow Mountains, I’ve been very lucky to try many things on motorcycles, but what stands out the most are the places you see and the people you meet.
I started guiding for Magellan back in 2018 after going on one of their tours to Austria and Switzerland. It blew me away! The snow-capped mountains, rolling roads and fields, the food—but most of all, the people I met. A group of perfect strangers soon became as close as family. I was hooked on touring life, so much so that my partner and I decided to take a break from our normal lives and hit the road for six months. We travelled across Europe and managed to explore 10 countries before heading home. I truly believe it was my first proper tour with Magellan that inspired me to take that leap.
To date, I’ve guided nine Magellan tours, and I’m thoroughly looking forward to the next adventure. I hope to see you there!
