At the end of March 2020 we took the very difficult decision to contact all clients and postpone our entire season. It seemed clear to us that continuing to operate on the basis that tours may go ahead would just prolong the uncertainty for all our customers. By taking this step early on it gave everyone the time and space to make their own decisions on when they felt comfortable touring again.
This was an expensive decision for us to take but, as always, we take our responsibility to our customers and staff extremely seriously, and we were not comfortable exposing any of our riders to a situation where they may be forced to travel uninsured or with the risk of restrictions being re-imposed at short notice.
Doing the right thing is something we live by here at Magellan and throughout this crisis we have remained true to our values as we want to remain a travel company you can trust. We’re all extremely excited about our fabulous season of Guided Tours in 2021 and beyond and the response from you all to our approach has been truly fantastic.

We’ve been doing right by all customers with trips affected by Covid-19
Many reports in the media both in the UK and abroad have highlighted the issues facing customers where travel companies have not been honouring contracts, have stopped replying to emails and calls, and are refusing to discuss cancelling trips until a few weeks prior to departure. Worst of all many have been withholding refunds for months or even over a year in some cases.
Since the beginning of the Pandemic we’ve acted quickly and used our own financial reserves where needed to ensure we do right by our riders. Doing the right thing is something we live by here at Magellan and you can be confident we will always put your safety and enjoyment above all else.
All Magellan tours come with fully flexible booking conditions by default.
We understand things are still very uncertain for our riders at the moment – and there’s only so much sitting on your bike in the garage and camping in your garden you can do before you’re desperate to get back out there for a proper adventure. In light of this we’ve made some changes to help you sleep easy when you lock-in a lockdown-blues-curing tour with us.
Changes to travel plans are now being allowed up to the point the final balance is paid, allowing date changes or moving to a different trip with no change fees. Clients can also cancel up to this point free of charge, any remaining monies paid will simply be held as credit to be used on a different trip instead. If we have to cancel any future tours due to Covid-19 then of course we will continue to do the right thing by our customers as we always have.
There always has and always will be full financial protection on your booking.
Before parting with your money for a holiday it is very important to ensure that it will be safe. The only way to do this in the UK is to book with a company who is fully bonded. Trust accounts, financial failure insurance policies and other such schemes allow smaller travel companies to operate in a legal grey area in the UK, free from regulatory checks and enforcement. The reality is that the events in recent months have led to many of these companies, who flout the regulations, sadly failing and their clients not being able to recover their money.
We remain one of the few UK motorcycle tour companies to be fully bonded by ABTOT (membership number 5388) so you know your money is 100% safe with us.
We are working tirelessly to adapt the way we run our trips and to ensure that, as restrictions are slowly lifted, all our riders will be safe. Our staff and guides are being trained on the latest guidance and all our guided tours will now be operated under new Safe Travel protocols developed and endorsed by the World Travel & Tourism Council.
New measures will include enhanced hygiene protocols, physical distancing across accommodation and transport, and moving away from large group meals at a single table. On top of this we’ll include clear, detailed guidance in our tour packs and pre trip information for each and every client.
As always your safety is our number one priority. Motorcycle touring after all of this passes may well be different but you can rest assured you will be in good hands with Magellan when you saddle up for your next adventure.
