I grew up in rural Gloucestershire, where my passion for motorcycles began as a teenager on an old scooter stripped of its bodywork, raced round local gravel pits until it caught the attention of both our parents and the local police more than once.
I passed my test at 17 on a CZ 175, then moved on to my first “proper” machine, a Triumph Bonneville. Those old enough to remember the test of the day will recall it largely involved riding round the block while the examiner stepped out in front of you for an emergency stop. If he survived, you passed.
After a long break from riding, I rediscovered my love of touring in my early forties, exploring France and Germany with friends. That first trip reignited everything, and many more followed. Eventually my wife grew tired of being left behind and joined me, and together we’ve toured extensively across Europe, India, and New Zealand, with India remaining my favourite.
In 2011 I passed my RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test and became a tutor, a role I still enjoy today. I also volunteer with the local Blood Bikes service, combining riding with supporting the community.
Away from motorcycles, my other great passion is photography, particularly wildlife. Now retired, I’ve spent the past fifteen years leading motorcycle tours, both privately and for tour companies.
I’m every bit as passionate about riding and exploring as I was back in the gravel pits all those years ago. What I enjoy most is sharing the experience with fellow riders, discovering new places, and making friends along the way.
