Starting from Athens we roll west toward the Peloponnese, cross the Corinth Canal, and curve down to Nafplion, crossing the mountains and descending to the Gulf of Corinth. Here we take in the remarkably preserved 2,000-year-old amphitheatre at Epidavros.

Explore ancient wonders

From Nafplion we follow Greece’s shoreline south – long coastal bends and quiet harbours – before turning inland over the mountains to Kalamata. After stunning seaside scenery, we climb to around 1,300 metres toward the Spartan plains, legendary birthplace of Helen of Troy, on spectacular mountain roads that rival Switzerland’s best, then drop back to the coast.

We continue along small mountain roads to Ancient Olympia, crossing another 1,300-metre pass to visit the 2,500-year-old Temple of Apollo, secluded in the mountains, before descending over 1,000 metres to Olympia itself. Here you’ll enjoy a day off the bike: explore the original Olympic site, the Museum of Antiquities, and the Archimedes Museum.

Next, we ride to Meteora, where rock pinnacles lift skywards and cliff-top monasteries command breathtaking views. We take a full day here off the bike to wander the walkways, chapels, and viewpoints at an unhurried pace.

The following morning, we continue from Meteora to Volos, passing by Mount Olympus, long regarded as the throne of Zeus and home of the Twelve Olympians, before reaching the coast. The roads are sublime, and the mountain’s sheer scale explains why it inspired divinity. After visiting Hercules’ birthplace, we pick up sections of the old national road – once the main artery of Greek life and now a rider’s playground – and run on to Athens.

Aegean Coast Road: With views of the turquoise sea and long, sweeping bends, this road winds through unspoilt towns, offering an unforgettable and exceptional ride along the Aegean coast.

Suspended Monasteries at Meteora: A UNESCO World Heritage Site where 14th–16th-century monasteries crown 1,000-foot rock pillars — one of the most spectacular collaborations between people and nature.

Ancient Olympia: Explore the site of the original Olympic Games, including the newly excavated race circuits and stadium. Visit the Temple of Zeus, adorned with stunning sculptures and frescoes, and discover the Archimedes Museum, which showcases full-sized replicas of incredible ancient inventions.

Amphitheatre at Epidavros: This remarkably preserved Greek amphitheatre once seated nearly 12,000 spectators – every one of whom could hear a whisper from the stage. The acoustics are truly astounding; you can even stand on the stage today and experience it for yourself.

Corinth Canal: Carved 80 metres deep and stretching 6 km, this canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. For the daring, there’s even the option to bungee jump from the bridge into the canal.

Mount Olympus: Ride around the legendary home of the twelve Greek gods. Standing at 3,000 metres, it’s the highest mountain in Greece, offering spectacular views and sweeping roads perfect for a thrilling ride.

Athens, Parthenon, and the Acropolis: Explore ancient Athens, visit the iconic Acropolis, and wander through the ruins of Hadrian’s Library. Or, if you prefer, relax on the beach near the hotel with a cocktail and some delicious food. Athens is a vibrant hub of culture, history, and tourism, making for a truly exciting and unique adventure.

The Old National Road: Before the modern motorways, this road carried it all; now it’s a quieter mix of flowing bends, technical stretches, and big views — the locals simply call it “the ride.”

They say that Greece is the most mountainous country in Europe, and fortunately for us, that is spot on! Many trips offer cultural days out in some form or another, but none I have ever been on come anywhere near this one to Greece – sensational in every respect. Thanks, Magellan, for one of the most incredible tours I have done to date.

Full Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival

Fly into Athens and transfer to your hotel. Settle in, meet your fellow riders, and enjoy an evening in the vibrant Greek capital.

Day 2 155 Miles

Collect your bike and ride west along the coast, crossing the impressive Corinth Canal before heading into the mountains and descending to the seafront charm of Nafplion. If time allows, visit the remarkably preserved amphitheatre at Epidavros.

Day 3 140 Miles

Follow the famed Aegean Coast Road for 50 miles of sweeping bends and turquoise views before climbing to around 1,300 metres toward the Spartan plains, legendary birthplace of Helen of Troy. Mountain roads rival Switzerland’s best before you drop into Kalamata.

Day 4 155 Miles

Ride through small mountain roads and over another high pass to visit the remote Temple of Apollo, then descend to Ancient Olympia, almost at sea level.

Day 5 Rest day

A rest day to explore the original Olympic site, the Museum of Antiquities, and the Archimedes Museum with its fascinating ancient inventions.

Day 6 155 Miles

Head north through scenic backroads and mountain landscapes to the riverside city of Arta, known for its historic stone bridge and relaxed pace.

Day 7 155 Miles

A day of smooth riding and varied scenery ending in Meteora, where towering rock pillars are crowned with monasteries that seem to float in the sky.

Day 8 Explore Day

Take the day to wander Meteora’s cliff-top monasteries, viewpoints, and hidden chapels at your own pace.

Day 9 185 Miles

Ride east through central Greece, passing by Mount Olympus, legendary home of the Greek gods, before reaching the coastal city of Volos.

Day 10 230 Miles

A full day’s ride along a mix of mountain and coastal roads. Pass through Hercules’ birthplace and follow sections of the old national road, a favourite with local bikers, before returning to Athens and handing back your bike.

Day 11 Departure

Depart Athens for your flight home, taking with you memories of Greece’s finest roads, historic wonders, and warm hospitality.

What will the weather be like on this tour and will it be too hot?

As avid motorcyclists ourselves, we choose all our tour dates specifically when the weather is perfect for you to be on the bike and when you should be as comfortable as possible. You can also consider a combination of vented gear and waterproofs with some base layers to cover all potential weather possibilities. Feel free to speak to us if you’d like to know more – we’re happy to offer advice on packing and the weather for any of our trips.

What type of motorcycle will I ride?

You’ll be riding a high-quality, well-maintained rental motorcycle suited to touring, complete with luggage. A range of models is available, and you can select the one that best fits your height, experience, and preferences when booking. All bikes come with insurance included. Speak to us if you need advice on which to choose.

What documents do I need to bring?

You’ll need a full motorcycle licence valid in Greece (and an International Driving Permit if required for your home country), along with your passport. We also recommend travel insurance that covers motorcycling of the engine size you’ll be riding. A full list of our required documents will be provided in our industry leading tour booklet.
