I’ve been a Magellan guide since 2022, and what a privilege it is. Magellan has some fantastic tours, and what makes guiding so enjoyable is the ability to share and relive these experiences with you! Anyway, a bit about me:
I got into biking out of necessity more than anything else—I needed to be independent and needed to be on the move. I was always out on my bike as a kid, but when I turned 16, I was given a scooter, and, as they say, that was that… until I crashed it into one of my parents’ friend’s cars, and then it wasn’t!
After a couple of years’ break, mainly due to the discovery of newfound freedoms and beer, I passed my bike test at the age of 20. From day rides on my poster bike at the time, a ZX636R, I progressed to a more relaxed Z750 and started exploring Europe, with my first trip being across the Pyrenees from Santander to Monte Carlo, and home over the Alps. From that point on, I was hooked on motorbike travel and exploration.
A couple of years later, in 2013, inspired by Ewan and Charlie, I got a 1200GS, grabbed a paper map, and headed in search of the Sahara Desert with my good friend Ben (also at Magellan). What could possibly go wrong…?
Nowadays, I still try to fit in a motorbike holiday once a year, as well as a couple of trips with Magellan. I try to do as many trips as I can get away with—sometimes pushing the boundaries, according to my wife! But it’s a bug… If it’s not the sights you’re seeing, it’s the people you’re meeting.
When I’m not out on my bike or touring, I’m at home looking after (or being looked after by) my wife and two young girls. I’m also into football (soccer for the American’s), food, fitness (in fleeting spells), movie nights, and generally love exploring and being outdoors. Hopefully, I’ll get to tour with you soon!
