Hi, I’m Christene!
I’m originally from Asia; my background is actually in engineering and technology, which might seem a little different from what I do today! I spent some time teaching Maths and Physics to matriculation and IGCSE students, as well as introducing younger learners to Computer Science. I’ve always been quite technically minded, but I’ve also had a creative side that was just waiting for its moment.
My career eventually took me into the business world, starting in HR before moving to the UK to continue my studies. After spending some time working in a technical role, I finally found my way into marketing, something I’d been interested in for years but hadn’t previously had the opportunity to explore professionally. Now, at Magellan, I get to combine both sides of myself through creating and editing webpages, producing social media content, working with photos and videos, and keeping an eye on our online engagement.
While I don’t have a motorcycling background, my love for two wheels started with bicycles when I was young. I absolutely loved cycling, although I probably collected just as many bruises as I did memories along the way! I’ve always been an active person and love hiking, walking and doing yoga when I need a little calm. One of my proudest moments was reaching the summit of Snowdon, something I never imagined I’d achieve.
When it comes to travelling, I’m definitely a beach person. Give me sunshine, fresh seafood and a freshly cut coconut, and I’m happy! I’m also a massive foodie, especially when it comes to spicy food! Outside work, I’m always finding something creative to keep myself busy. I love making short videos of everyday life, cooking videos and experimenting with new editing ideas. I’m also quite handy with crafts and used to make and sell handmade dreamcatchers, bracelets and earrings.
Oh, and I’m a hardcore cat person. I have a calico cat who has perfected the art of completely ignoring me, especially when I’m trying to give her a kiss! That doesn’t stop me, of course. If I see a cat, I WILL talk to it. Whether it wants to have a conversation with me is completely irrelevant. I’ve always believed that life is better with a little laughter, and I’m definitely someone who enjoys a bit of cheeky humour, often delivered with a completely straight face!
Since joining Magellan, I feel like I’ve discovered a whole new world without even leaving my desk! A big part of my job involves going through photos, videos and live updates from our tours, so although I’m sitting indoors, I sometimes feel as though I’m travelling right alongside everyone. And when we have some particularly talented photographers on tour, that’s when my job gets both exciting and difficult. Sometimes I just want to use every single one of them!
That’s what I enjoy most about being part of Magellan. I get to combine my love of creativity, travel and storytelling while sharing the wonderful experiences our riders have around the world. I might not be riding a motorcycle myself just yet, but in a funny way, I feel like I’ve already been on quite a few adventures with them!
