The next morning, our bikes are delivered to our oasis hotel before we leave the suburbs and head through a national park into the Western Atlas Mountains. After a first day on some cracking roads, and via the spectacular Ouzoud Waterfalls – one of Morocco’s tallest and most beautiful cascades – we’ll rest on the shores of Lake Bin El Ouidane. Here, we stay in a hidden gem overlooking the High Atlas Mountains, perfectly positioned for exploring this astonishing range.

From here, we ride through moon-like landscapes and incredible roads, traversing the sparsely populated High Atlas and stopping for pots of Moroccan tagine along the way. As the sun crosses the sky above us, we descend into Errachidia – 'Gateway to the Sahara' – riding through the lush palm groves of the Ziz Valley to our fantastic kasbah for the night.

Now properly in the heart of Morocco, we drop into the canyon and ride past oases, heading towards our desert camp outpost overlooking the incredible Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. After parking the bikes for the night, we’ll trade two wheels for two humps and head out into the Sahara for a night under the stars. This is always one of those pinch-yourself moments – but the highlights don’t stop here.

The following morning, it’s back on the bikes and straight into a desert crossing. This stretch of arid landscape was used as a filming location for the desert planet in Star Wars, and it won’t take long to see why. It’s vast, remote, and strikingly barren. After morning coffee, the route turns north at Tinghir, leading to the breathtaking Gorges du Todra. Here, a 300-metre-deep fault cleaves the orange limestone into a dramatic ravine, at times feeling just wide enough for the crystal-clear river and your bikes to pass through.

The final day on the bikes offers another nod to cinema and TV history, with a visit to the Atlas Film Studios just outside Ouarzazate. Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Game of Thrones, The Grand Tour, and many more have found their homes here over the years. Following a journey through the silver screen, the final afternoon is a glorious highlight reel of snaking roads and incredible views. Heading across the Great Marrakesh Plains, you’ll ascend to the Tizi n’Tichka Pass via the spectacular ancient village of Aït Benhaddou – a UNESCO World Heritage site – and follow the historic caravan route through the Ounila Valley, before finally crossing the High Atlas Mountains once more, back to Marrakesh.
