Tour Guide

Motorcycling has been my lifelong passion, sparked in childhood by my Uncle Dave, a police motorcycle mechanic. His garage, filled with old bikes, tools, and the rich smell of oil and rubber, became a magical place for me. Alongside my cousins, I learned the basics of riding and bike maintenance in the field next to our family bungalow. These early experiences ignited a love for motorcycles that has never faded.

At 15, after saving my pocket money, I bought two Honda SS50s and spent countless hours in my dad’s shed turning them into one working bike. That project kickstarted my motorcycling journey. I sold the finished bike and bought a stylish Gilera 50, instantly becoming the coolest kid at school.

Following school and a carpentry apprenticeship, I joined the Forces, beginning a chapter filled with travel, adventure, and lifelong friendships. As a Forces child, I also grew up in Germany and Holland, which nurtured my love of travel from an early age.

Throughout every chapter of life, motorcycling remained a constant. A visit to the Isle of Man in 1993 was a turning point – it inspired me to go racing. I earned my ACU licence and spent three thrilling seasons competing across the UK. When my racing days ended, I turned to touring. I rode through Italy, France, Germany, and the Czech Republic, often planning my routes around MotoGP and World Superbikes events. One standout journey took me across New Zealand’s North and South Islands – an unforgettable experience I recommend to everyone.

My love for the biking lifestyle eventually led me to the south of France, where I set up a biker-friendly gîte in the Pyrenees. Surrounded by stunning scenery and winding roads, it was a dream come true. After eight fulfilling years, I returned to the UK to be closer to family and play an active role in my granddaughter’s life.

Now semi-retired, I work part-time as a DAS motorcycle instructor. I’m IAM certified, trained in first aid, and well versed in the essential racer’s toolkit – spanners, gaffer tape, and zip ties.

A recent dream to ride in Africa led me to Magellan Motorcycle Tours. I joined their Morocco tour, expertly led by Tim and Mark. Their professionalism and infectious passion for adventure were so inspiring, I knew I had to be part of what they were doing.

Today, I’m enthusiastic, experienced, and always ready for the next great journey. Whether sharing stories or roads with fellow riders, I continue to make unforgettable memories and new friendships.

Friends describe me as humble, caring, passionate – and just a little bit bonkers. I wear that badge with pride.
