Stuart Harman

Tour Guide

I’m Stuart, a southerner who moved to the North of England back in the 1980s for a fresh start in life. I was warmly welcomed, and it has been my home for many years now. On a sunny day, the roads across the North of England and Scotland are right on our doorstep and a joy to ride when you need a break from the daily chores.

Whilst I’m officially retired, sort of, even at my age (over 21!), I think I’m proof that adventure doesn’t have an age limit. Motorcycles have been part of my life for many years, but off-road riding on big adventure bikes really excites me. There’s just something about leaving the road behind and stepping out of my comfort zone that makes me feel alive like nothing else can.

Although my wife and I have successfully organised many of our own motorcycle trips across Europe, our relationship with Magellan began in 2020, when we wanted the reassurance of the backup and support the company provides. Riding alone in remote environments can be high risk, especially when things go wrong. Since then, we’ve been on many more trips with the company.

My best adventure so far has to be Patagonia because of the stunning natural beauty, the remote, untouched wilderness, the glaciers, and the ‘end of the world’ charm. Meticulous planning and organisation, dealing with the unexpected, and working in high-risk environments have all been a big part of my professional life, and I think they’re great skills to have in the toolbox just in case.

Before I retired, I promised myself I’d find opportunities to give back to others and help them discover adventure in every sense of the word. I derive great pleasure out of helping others, and seeing people succeed and achieve things they didn’t think were possible, so becoming a tour guide seems a great way of delivering on my promise. Whilst it may sound unbelievable, those who really know me, know it’s true.
