Tour Guide

I recently had an epiphany: motorcycle touring doesn’t have to be the gruelling slog of long days, overambitious distances, and economy accommodations that I endured during my earliest attempts over 30 years ago. Modern machines and equipment, meticulously designed routes, and luxury hotels have transformed my taste for two-wheeled adventure into a craving that I now find hard to satiate. Yes, Magellan may have had something to do with that.

After a career in film and television production, locations, and set design—travelling and working in many varied and wonderful places—it’s a blessing to continue exploring even more exciting destinations purely for pleasure. The satisfaction of travelling a beautifully designed route to an iconic destination is now my elixir. May it keep us ever young. The world is just a better place when viewed astride a motorcycle.

One of my favourite things about motorcycling is the community. You meet all sorts of weird and wonderful people on the road, each bringing something new and special. Some become hilarious bar tales, and others become the very people who surround you in the bar. There’s no community quite like the global Magellan community.

When I’m not on the road, I’m busy with a long list of development projects at my cottage in Wales, rewilding and restoring a few acres of wildflower meadow around it, and celebrating the achievement of being a net energy producer!

So here’s to the open road, to the thrill of the ride, to striving to be the best rider you can be, and to the countless adventures that lie ahead. The world is beautiful. It’s not so important where you go; the important thing – is to go!
