I grew up on a small family farm in the North West of England, which developed my interest in animals and, in particular, horses. I have had my own horse since the age of nine and currently look after my wonder horse, ‘Dylan’ – a Suffolk Punch cross.
In 2004, I started dating Stuart (now my husband) and, along with a passion for skiing, we shared an enthusiasm for riding motorcycles. (By the way – he proposed to me at the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics!) I passed my motorcycle test in 2006 and bought a CBR600F. I would often ride to work on it, and we started our adventures visiting the British Superbike races around the UK and the NW200 road races in Northern Ireland.
As we wanted to venture further afield to mainland Europe, we decided to change our bikes for something a little more practical, and I decided the Triumph Tiger 800 was the one for me. We have ridden across France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Bosnia and Croatia, and developed a keen interest in off-road riding and have attended courses with BMW and mainly Triumph in South Wales. We have toured ‘off-road’ extensively around Wales and Portugal, and experienced the Magellan BMW Andalucía Back Country Explorer Tours.
I retired from the Police Service in 2020 and, in planning my retirement, I wanted to go on a special trip to celebrate and specifically wanted to visit Alaska and ride the Dalton Highway. We wanted an adventure that was varied, well planned, and to be safe in the knowledge that the trip would be fully supported throughout, for our own peace of mind. So, having done our research, we booked with Magellan Motorcycle Tours.
Even though there was a delay to the trip due to COVID, everything went ahead in 2022 and was certainly worth the wait and lived up to our expectations. Patagonia in 2024 was also an amazing experience, again travelling with Magellan. The Magellan tours have given us the opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded people and share real adventures. And so, with that in mind, I want to be able to support others in fulfilling their quest for adventure.
